Education

Getting back to writing a little bit to get my head thinking again, and to streamline my thoughts after some time is a challenge. To be very honest this break wasn't an intended break, its just my adhd brain being saturated after a while and searching for something new always.

It might seem all over the place to read this article because lets face it, I am not a professional and this isn't a self help blog!

My today’s thought actually isn’t derived from anyone its just an epiphany (maybe short lasting) that just happened while thinking about finances, standing in a bank.

So, I ask myself about education and why study? What to study? And how does it relate to work?

What my mind tells me is as follows- No matter how much we develop as a society, our society as it stands is because countless people before us have worked to make it the way it is. And it may be possible that you wont be disrespected as a human, but you sure wont be respected if you aren’t working (when you physically can). So it stays established that you have to work… why? Because what else is the option? Take and take, but not give anything back? Are people who just take worthy of respect as a fellow comrade?

So, we work. We work to contribute to the world. One big lie I think everyone is told is, that, we work for ourselves. Yes we work for ourselves but our work makes the world run indirectly or directly and solves problems. And we get paid for that, which in turn help solves our own problems. So actually we work for not just for ourselves. So how is work related to education? Or some skill you learn? Because, you learn something which makes you capable to contribute to the world. If you learn for just yourself then the learning is no good. Its actually a liability than an asset. Imagine a doctor who studied medicine so that he/she can give themselves meds when needed? How bizarre is that?? Imagine an architect who learned the skill to make just their homes a beautiful? Isn't that expensive and just a liability?? Does a plumber just repair his own pipes?

Now I am an engineer who works as an engineer but reads about anatomy on the side. I might be able to take care of my health better.. maybe also my relatives. But can I serve anyone else with my skills? Could I treat anyone by it? Most probably no. So what purpose does education serve? It just makes us capable of serving and make the society better. What learnt skills I occupy are actually for the world in a large portion and very less for my gains. In a directed way. It can be looked at in a reverse manner too. Lets say, you learned a skill, without you knowing anything about it. Now atleast there is a tool!! I have a Hammer to hit when I encounter a nail! And that’s exactly how I think education must be looked at… while making a choice of study. How do you think you can serve the society without it boring you out of your mind? What skills can you learn or what skills do you possess that could potentially solve any problem. And if you are honest about it, you will make a right choice and also never find studies boring. I found my studies boring for a majority of my education but I excelled at every subject which I saw a practical application to in solving real life problems. Some people don't really think so much, they just excel and that's fine too. This blog is for streamlining thoughts of confused people and just my personal feelings. Not a self help blog afterall.
